hike is just a silent-e syllable where the e jumps over to help the i say its name. We use a K in hike because its followed by an e\

Great questions. “Put” is an irregular word, that means it doesn’t follow the rules. About 4% of words in the English language are irregular, this unfortunately means we just have to remember how to spell them.
